Hello! I’m so glad you stopped by.

This is where I translate beauty, contemplation, and discovery into poetry and photography. Serene Artist is a mantra that inspires me to be the best version of myself, and keeps me aligned with the Serene Artist, the creative Source.

I’ve been writing poetry since third grade when I was first introduced to the magic of creative writing. I’m currently exploring the intersection of poetry and mystical expression. My poems have appeared in literary journals and anthologies, and in my recently published book of poetry, 59 Prayers, which you can find on Amazon.

After earning a technical undergraduate degree (I went for the left brain first), I earned a master’s degree in creative writing. Which means that over the course of my journey as a writer, I’ve written everything from technical white papers, to advertising copy, to purely creative work. As a compulsive writer, I have enjoyed all of it, but poetry for me is true love. Poetry is what what happens when I splash around in the creative river that runs through my inner neighborhood.

That river flows through your neighborhood, too, and I love helping others tap into those creative waters. I teach free-verse poetry writing workshops for students in grades K-12, and also offer a companion workshop for teachers as Professional Development. And to share the love outside the classroom, I lead creative writing  workshops and talks for adults.

My hope is that you’ll find beauty and peace here at SereneArtist.com, and carry it with you in your life. Thanks for visiting my little spot along the river. If you’d like to arrange a speaking engagement or workshop for your students, colleagues, friends, or yourself, contact me at cheryl.at.cherylracanelli.com.

Blessings,

Cheryl Racanelli

  1. Dear Cheryl,

I sent my multi-verse Haiku poem to John O’Dononue’s website yesterday (For John O’Donahue) and then I read your poem – it is magnificent! I so relate to the images and words that John inspired in you…. an interest in poetry has been renewed in me, and my appreciation for it. I’ve been engaged with Spiritual Formation practices for about 5 years now and the journey continues to grow deeper and richer… God is so good, and It is also good to meet a fellow traveler along the way.
    Peace & grace today,

    • Dear Jo-Ellen,
Thank you taking the time to share kind words about my poem. Writing the poem was a blessing to me in many ways. I hope that your writing also blesses you. It’s wonderful to meet someone else who has been touched by the work of John O’Donohue. Thank you also for the wishes of peace and grace. Your message is a gift to me. God bless you and your work.
Grace and peace to you, too–
      Cheryl
